Could Your Headache be a Brain Injury?

It could be weeks after an incident, but a nagging headache could be the sign of something more serious than your average personal injury. Whether it was a car accident or a slip and fall at a retail location if you hit your head during an accident and have a headache after, it could be worthwhile to seek medical care and err on the side of caution. Even if you went to a hospital immediately following such an accident, something could have been missed, particularly if you were not yet showing symptoms of your injury.

Causes and Symptoms: Head Trauma Injuries

Unsure if your headache could be linked to your recent accident? If there is any doubt, it makes good sense to see your doctor as soon as possible. For those convinced their injury could not have been the culprit as the accident was over a week ago, there are some causes of a brain injury you should consider before deciding the two are unrelated:

  • Sports-Related. If your injury was sports-related, there is a definite risk of traumatic brain injury. In fact, sports causing head injuries have been a major headline for some years at the professional, local and youth level. Contact sports have the highest likelihood of causing a concussion or other brain injury.
  • Auto Accidents. Car accidents, or any accidents on the road with vehicles involved, inherently bring major impact, even when it’s a fender bender. Some victims walk away from accidents thinking they only suffered minor whiplash but the impact and jerking of the head can lead to a brain injury that shows signs awhile after the accident.
  • Slips and Falls. Tripping, slipping and falling all can lead to brain injuries if the head hits the ground or other hard surfaces. In many cases, symptoms don’t show until well after the falling incident has occurred.
  • Assault. If you have been the victim of a violent crime, headaches could be a sign of brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder, making it imperative to your long-term health to seek medical care.

Symptoms of dizziness, confusion, disorientation, light-headedness, room-spinning sensations, and ringing of the ears can be the sign of a more serious issue. If you have a brain injury due to the negligence of another party, contact our team today for advice on your accident.
